Running a gymnastics competition in the UK has traditionally meant one of two things: a stack of paper score sheets passed between judges and a scoring table, or expensive dedicated software that takes half a day to configure and requires someone technical to operate it. Neither works particularly well when you're also trying to manage 200 gymnasts, four apparatus, and a venue full of parents expecting to see live results on their phones.
ChalkItUp is our answer to that. It's gymnastics scoring software built specifically for UK club competitions — affordable, browser-based, and designed to run on whatever devices you already have. No dedicated hardware. No installation. No specialist to keep on retainer.
What it does
ChalkItUp covers the full competition day, from setup through to results export:
The public leaderboard — live, filterable, and shareable with a link.
Setup wizard
Create a competition in under ten minutes. Levels, age bands, apparatus, and judging panels all in one guided flow. Sensible defaults pre-filled throughout.
Entry import
Import gymnasts from a spreadsheet in bulk. Ask clubs to fill in the template in advance — import each file in turn on the day and entries stack automatically.
Digital judging
Judges log in on any phone or tablet with a competition code and a four-digit PIN. No app to download. Simple, D+E, or D+E+ND scoring — whatever your format requires.
Live leaderboard
You control who sees results and when — scores can stay hidden until you're ready, go to coaches first, or open to the public automatically. When you do share, anyone with the link can open the leaderboard on any device without logging in.
Team scoring
Team results alongside individual rankings, with configurable top-N scoring per apparatus. Shown on the leaderboard alongside individual results.
Big-screen display
The Live Scoreboard feature runs on a TV or projector in the venue — rotating results by category, a live score ticker, and automatic updates throughout the day.
How scoring works
When you set up a competition, you choose a scoring mode that matches how your judges work. Three options are supported:
- Simple — one total score per apparatus. Good for recreational events and in-house gradings where judges aren't working to FIG rules.
- D + E — difficulty and execution split. All deductions go into the E score. Common for BG club grades and NDP preparation levels.
- D + E + ND — full WAG scoring with separate neutral deductions. The default, and right for most competitive formats.
In D+E and D+E+ND modes, judges can enter the E score directly or work in deduction mode — where they type the total deduction they're applying and the system subtracts it from the start value automatically. Most judges find deduction mode more natural because it matches how they're trained to think about execution.
Scoring integrity from day one
One of the things we were most particular about in the test phase was what happens when something goes wrong — a score entered twice, a split panel where only the D judge has submitted, a vault attempt counted incorrectly. ChalkItUp catches all of these automatically.
The admin dashboard shows a live scoring integrity check alongside your score progress. It flags incomplete splits, duplicate role submissions, over-attempt entries, and published zero scores — with drill-down to the exact gymnast affected. Green across the board means every score in the system is clean. You don't have to go looking for problems; the system surfaces them.
The Live tab's scoring integrity check, alongside missing scores and rotation progress.
Plans and pricing
ChalkItUp is priced per competition, with an annual option for clubs that run several events a year:
The free trial gives you access to all features, with a limit on entries. You can go live with real judges, a real leaderboard, and real results — with up to 10 gymnasts. It's designed to let you see the whole system working before committing to a plan.
What's next
We built ChalkItUp from the ground up for the way UK clubs actually run competitions. The core is solid — and we're shipping improvements every few weeks based on what organisers tell us they need. If you run a competition and something doesn't work the way you'd expect it to, we want to know.
You can reach us at [email protected]. And if you want to see how the system holds up in practice, the free trial is the place to start.
